Implant full-arch: the records your dental laboratory needs

A full-arch case is more than an arch scan. The laboratory needs a coherent file linking the prosthetic project, implant references, occlusion, aesthetics and approval stages.

Before design

Describe the prosthetic project and clinical stage

The same scan can require a different response depending on whether the request is for a provisional, prototype, try-in or definitive restoration.

Specify the arch, treatment stage, requested prosthesis and approvals already completed. Records from an existing prosthesis, wax-up or digital project must be clearly identified.

Vertical dimension, incisal edge position, lip support and midline are clinically approved references. The laboratory translates them into design from the records supplied by the dentist.

Compatibility

Document implants and components precisely

For every implant, provide manufacturer, range, platform, position and scan component. A visually similar reference is not confirmation of compatibility.

Implant references

Brand, range, platform, diameter and connection confirmed by the dentist.

Scanbodies

Reference, digital library and clinical seating checked before acquisition.

Prosthetic components

Abutments, interfaces, screws and planned tissue heights.

Shared stages

Split approvals to prevent a late-stage error

Agree before design which elements require approval: setup, aesthetics, jaw relation, prototype, framework or finish. Every approval should point to an identified version.

Frontal and profile photographs, aesthetic references and the dentist’s observations give meaning to the 3D file. The laboratory can then flag inconsistencies before manufacturing.

Minimum checklist before transfer

  • Prescription, clinical stage and proposed material.
  • Scans of arches, tissues, opposing arch and jaw relation checked.
  • Reference prosthesis or project file clearly named.
  • Verified list of implants, scanbodies and components.
  • Photographs and aesthetic references required for approval.
  • Realistic schedule for approvals and manufacturing.
